NC State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan
Background
The 2025 - 2030 North Carolina Outdoor Recreation Plan is a statewide strategy, formally called the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP), that North Carolina updates every five years so the state can remain eligible for federal Land and Water Conservation Fund grants. It outlines goals, priorities, and community-informed recommendations to improve outdoor recreation access, promote health and wellbeing, build resiliency, foster equitable access, and support economic development across the state’s parks and outdoor spaces, while engaging residents, agencies, and stakeholders in planning and public comment.
What We Did
Providing engagement activities at events taking place in urban and rural settings allowed us to educate the community on the various trails available and gain a common understanding of trail users needs and challenges.
Pop-up engagement at existing trail events, farmers markets, and county fairs such as the Brutal Bike Ride event in Ashe County and the Juneteenth Festival as Lake James State Park.
