“We are really proud of the success of the Civic Impact Academy," said Christine Pitkin, founder of both Civility Localized and its Civic Impact Academy. “We know it’s crucial to provide opportunities for folks to learn how to leverage community power within local government frameworks, and make meaningful connections here in Charlotte.”
The Academy's curriculum emphasizes collaboration across sectors, bringing community members into classrooms with local government employees to create stronger connections between power centers. Participants benefit from the expertise of community engagement experts and professional instructors representing local government offices, nonprofits, and more. Past partners include The Urban League of Central Carolinas, Charlotte Museum of History, and more.
The Civic Impact Academy represents a significant step forward in fostering informed and effective civic engagement in the Carolinas. Next year’s program is already being built and will include opportunities for even more people to engage with civic education.
