Welcome to the Civility Localized Newsletter & Happy Earth Month

Each April we take time to reaffirm our commitment to supporting sustainability initiatives, and projects aimed at building increasingly resilient communities.

This newsletter highlights crucial steps in our ongoing civic engagement efforts. We are laser-focused on building stronger, more sustainable coalitions between community members and the local governments that serve them. That’s why we are bringing you Civic Impact Academy’s second cohort in Fall 2025.

Civic Impact Academy Gears Up For Class of 2025

It’s official! Civic Impact Academy will return for a second cohort in 2025.

We are hosting our first Civic Impact Academy information session and professional mixer on April 10th at Loyd Studios at Camp North End. Attendees will:

• Learn how to apply for and participate in Cohort 2

• Hear the in-depth experiences of Cohort 1 Graduates

• Network with community changemakers

• Enjoy socializing at Camp North End’s newest creative space, Loyd Studios

Civility Localized Welcomes 2025 Community Ambassadors

Civility Localized is proud to introduce our newest Community Ambassadors: Shannon Walker, Maya Espinosa, Krupa Jacob, Danny Barden, Courtney Pullom, and Sarah Gobran.

These talented individuals have hit the ground running during a busy spring event season and have already been part of several public events. Join us in congratulating our newest ambassadors. You can learn more about our team on our website and we hope to see you at an upcoming event soon!

Thank You & Farewell from Krupa’s Corner

I will be ending my internship with Civility Localized very soon.

This is bittersweet because this was my first internship with an organization and I have gained so much from it.

One skill I am truly proud of gaining was learning the inner workings of Asana. This was a platform that intimidated me quite a bit, but as I used it throughout the internship, I was able to successfully complete all my work.

I want to extend my deep gratitude toward Christine Edwards Pitkin and Elizabeth Flemister for their support and kindness throughout my time working with them. I could not have had a more stress-free experience without their guidance!

Community Engagement Strategy and Tips:

1. Get Informed: Begin by learning about how your government functions through available resources, either in person or online. Understanding the civic process builds confidence and familiarity with the necessary language and connections.

2. Discover Your Passion: Pinpoint the civic issues that resonate with you, whether it's local initiatives like preserving green spaces or broader concerns. Identifying your passion fuels your drive to create change.

   • Our very own Civic Impact Academy graduate Joseph Margolis was so drawn to saving the last remaining natural space in his neighborhood, he overcame his fear of knocking on doors. It was because he found something that lit him up, he found the pathway to engage.

3. Apply Your Impact Locally: Start by engaging within your immediate community—neighborhood, place of worship, or school. Practice small acts of civic participation, such as saying hello to your neighbors or sharing resources about what’s going on in the community, and gradually expand your involvement.
