Get Civic Reboot

Celebrating Seven Years Of Community Engagement

Civility Localized is a community engagement firm based in Charlotte, NC.

Here’s how it started.

A Brief History

2018: Christine Edwards Pitkin, MPA leverages a Knight Foundation grant to launch Amplify Charlotte, a community engagement consulting firm rooted in the belief that robust public input is key to effective and trustworthy governance. For Christine, distributing boxed Get Civic Kits at community events became a hands-on mission that would inform the future.

2022: Amplify Consulting successfully rebrands as Civility Localized and expands operations.

2023: Civility Localized contributes to the work of government initiatives and public projects across the Carolinas. This includes the City of Charlotte, NC’s Arts+Culture Plan, and the Greenville-Spartanburg, SC Airport Transit Feasibility Study.

2024: Civility Localized expands operations again and launches its very own civic education initiative titled the Civic Impact Academy. The academy seeks to increase civic engagement in every community while enhancing the engagement capabilities of those in the public workforce.

2025: Civility Localized continues to grow operations and prove its staying power. The firm is still committed to seeing every community grow with dignity, and continues to champion thought leadership in the engagement space and big ideas in civics. Civic Impact Academy enters its second year offering civic education to folks interested in building social capital and improving community engagement.

From Get Civic Kits to a Comprehensive Civic Academy

Amplify Consulting’s early days were marked by a tangible commitment to making civics accessible.

Drawing on her experience working in city and county government, Christine Edwards Pitkin recognized significant gaps in both trust and knowledge between regular folks and the governing bodies shaping their communities.

To bridge this divide, she designed and distributed boxed Get Civic Kits at public events. These boxes contained more than just informational packets; they were an invitation, a tool to get involved with local government and community leadership.

This hands-on approach to demystifying civic participation was foundational to the mission and ethos of her company and the brands she would develop later on.

In 2025, Civility Localized opened applications for the second annual cohort of the Civic Impact Academy. This civic education initiative is the latest manifestation of Christine’s passion for equipping communities to engage government and builds significantly on the mission to make civics accessible to even more people.
